Background of the Study
School-based health interventions are increasingly recognized as effective platforms for addressing adolescent health issues, including drug abuse. In Ogun State, Nigeria, rising rates of substance use among adolescents have prompted educational institutions to implement targeted programs aimed at prevention and awareness. These interventions often encompass peer counseling, interactive workshops, and curriculum-based education designed to inform students about the risks associated with drug abuse (Oluwatobi, 2023). Schools offer a structured environment where health messages can be consistently delivered, and the impact of such interventions can be reinforced through both curricular and extracurricular activities. Studies suggest that when adolescents are equipped with accurate information and coping strategies, they are less likely to engage in substance abuse. However, challenges such as inadequate program funding, varying levels of teacher training, and resistance from students may impede effectiveness (Adebisi, 2024). This study aims to evaluate the overall impact of school-based health interventions on reducing drug abuse among adolescents in Ogun State and to identify factors that can enhance these programs’ effectiveness (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the implementation of various school-based health programs in Ogun State, drug abuse among adolescents continues to be a major public health concern. Inconsistent program delivery, limited resources, and inadequate training of educators contribute to gaps in the effectiveness of these interventions. Moreover, societal pressures and peer influences often counteract the positive messages delivered in schools. As a result, many adolescents remain vulnerable to substance abuse, which can have long-term detrimental effects on their health and academic performance. The lack of robust evaluation data makes it difficult to determine which components of the programs are most effective and which require improvement. This gap in knowledge hinders the ability of policymakers and educators to optimize school-based interventions to curb drug abuse among young people (Chukwuma, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on secondary schools in urban and peri-urban areas of Ogun State. Data will be collected via student surveys, interviews with educators, and program evaluations. Limitations include potential self-report bias and variability in program implementation across schools.
